Throughout this unit, students will be working in pairs to create a wiki site that details a possible holiday/tour they may take around Australia. The students will have criteria to meet of places they are to visit that have some significance to Australia to align with the HSIE focus outcome for the unit. They may choose 6 out of the following places
A place/site with historical significance
A place/site with Indigenous significance
Their favourite place in Australia
A place/site with cultural significance for a different culture
A “big” thing
Visit a national park in either a tropical or alpine region
Visit one saltwater and one freshwater place
Visit an area with an endangered species of flora or fauna
Visit an area associated with an author
An “industry” town
Some of the places they visit may check more than one of the criteria above. In terms of using the wiki site, they will need to complete the following.
At least one description text type with appropriate images
A minimum of one sentence about each place they visit
Students will be provided with the appropriate scaffolding in class to be able to complete this task mainly outside the classroom. We have created a wiki that we will use as an example of what the students might do, Our Australian Adventure.
Some of the places they visit may check more than one of the criteria above.
In terms of using the wiki site, they will need to complete the following.
